Jonathan Brisby is one of the two overarching protagonists of the 1982 film The Secret of NIMH, which was based on the 1971 novel Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH by Robert C. O'Brien.

He was the deceased husband of Mrs. Brisby in The Secret of NIMH. He was the father of Teresa, Cynthia, Martin and Timothy. Jonathan died four years after the escape from NIMH, attempting to aid the Rats by drugging the farmer's cat Dragon.

Appearance[]

Jonathan appeared in a flashback as a young mouse with spotted grey-brown fur. He is similar in appearance to his son Martin.

Personality[]

Jonathan was known to be incredibly brave and clever, and without his help, the Rats of NIMH would have never survived their escape through the ventilation system. Even after the escape from NIMH, Jonathan still retained his sense of bravery and loyalty, as he was willing to put himself in danger for the Rats by agreeing to try drugging the Fitzgibbons' cat Dragon, an act which ultimately cost him his life. He also was a very considerate mouse to his family as he didn't tell his wife or children that the experiments he went through at NIMH altered his biology to a degree that, had he not been slain by Dragon, he would've outlived them all due to slowed aging.

Role in Films[]
