Chief McBrusque is the tertiary antagonist of An American Tail: The Treasure of Manhattan Island. He is a ferocious, and overweight chief of the NYPD (New York City Police Department), and a very strict and harsh chief. He enjoys beating and causing trouble to the other mice of New York, particularly the immigrants, seeing them as trouble-makers. Earlier, he and his thugs killed the glasses-wearing worker with billy clubs, devastating the other workers seeing this. He, like the factory owners are suspicious of Papa and see him as a trouble-maker. When he followed Fievel and the others to the underground cave, there was a battle between the Indians and the police. Eventually, the police surrendered and were believed to have left. Then, as Fievel was about to set the gun powder, McBrusque and Scuttlebutt returned for round two. McBrusque taunts Fievel with the torch as he attempts to burn the young mouse, only to be defeated by Fievel as he bites McBrusque in the arm and stomping his foot. Fievel grabs the torch and throws it at the gunpowder, causing an explosion and the tunnel to be sealed. Trivia

  • He and Scuttlebutt are the only villains in the American Tail series to be killed off.
  • Despite being a secondary antagonist, Chief McBrusque is one of the most evil villains in the American Tail film series (alongside Warren T. Rat) because of his cruelty to the workers and others.
  • During the sequence McBrusque fights Fievel in the final climax, he say to the young mouse “ Didn't your mother ever tell you? Kids shouldn't play with fire, you might get burned!”. This is because of Sherman Howard was given dialogue limitation as a death threat-related dialogue would be too unsettling to be used in front of Thomas Dekker, who was 9-10 years old at the time.
